Coming Soon: New Book Explores Democracy as a Lived Experience

Sep 07, 2026

Morris "Butch" Bosin, who leads The Forum on Citizen-Centric Democracy, explores what democracy means not simply as a system of government, but as something citizens actually experience in their everyday lives.

What does democracy mean in everyday life—not simply as a set of institutions, elections, and laws, but as something people experience through participation, relationships, community, and their sense of having a meaningful voice?

In his forthcoming book, Democracy as a Lived Experience: A Phenomenological Perspective, Morris Bosin approaches democracy from precisely this perspective. Rather than treating democracy primarily as a collection of governmental structures and procedures, he examines it as a lived experience shaped by perception, participation, dialogue, and meaning.

It is a perspective closely aligned with The Forum’s mission: putting citizens at the center of democratic life and exploring how individuals, institutions, and communities can help create a healthier, more responsive democracy.
